launchd questions

  • Subject: launchd questions

I have some launchd questions I couldn't find direct answers to anyplace else. I hope this is the appropriate place to  ask. These questions refer to user-level launch agent .plists in particular.

1) What is the default timeout time for a job? I would like my jobs to never time out so what value should I use for the TimeOut key?

2) When I make changes to a .plist how can I alert launchctl that changes were made? I just had a very confusing episode testing because changes being made the files weren't registering with launchctl. I found that using launchctl unload then load again seems to work but I imagine there is another way which is more efficient.

3) I noticed at one point there were jobs in the queue (using launchctl list) that had their .plists deleted. Do I need to take special care to make sure the jobs are removed (launchctl unload?) before deleting the files? I'm not sure if this could have dangerous effects.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Josef
