hello all
i've got a few questions regarding checking the status of a software RAID.
• which are the proper APIs to check the status of all attached software RAIDs, i.e. perform the equivalent of "diskutil appleRAID list". google search or grepping /System/Library/Frameworks/ turned up nothing on this matter.
• if there is no public API to check the software RAID status, has anyone more information on the specific output of "diskutil appleRAID list". more specifically i've seen "Online" and "Offline" as possible results of the "Status:" field, are there any more like "Degraded"? are there possible results for device node status besides "Online" and "Missing/Damaged"? did the output change in recent versions of Mac OS X? are the possible status values different for "Stripe" and "Mirror" RAIDs?
• does anyone know of a way to simulate RAID degradation? just un-plugging a drive? this only leads to the RAID being offline, is this the same as degradation?
• is the source to "diskutil" by chance buried somewhere here http://www.opensource.apple.com/ ?
thanks, julian
