NKE compilation question

I'm trying to build my NKE using an automake/autoconf build environment, instead of pbxbuild. The build works fine, but I get the following when loading:

bash-2.05# kmodload mynke
kmodload: Unknown symbol _kmod_info in mynke
kmodload: mynke is not a valid kernel module.
bash-2.05#

I'm sure this is something simple I'm missing, or not doing correctly.
