Perhaps this would be better if this wasn't on the kernel list?
Anyways, I get around this with a tiny wrapper application that opens
any file in gvim. So I set my preferred editor to this Cocoa app and
then everything opens in gVim like I expected. It's definitely just a
hack, and I'd rather a more robust solution, but it does work.

After clicking on Preferences in the Project Builder, I found the File
Types setup menu, but do not see vi as
an option.
I am sure the solutions is easy, and would appreciate help.
