I don't believe there are any differences between the kernel for the
server and client versions of Mac OS X, at least for this discussion.
The server version includes a setting for maxproc of 2048 (in the
SystemTuning Startup item) but that does not affect the per-user
situation. The comments already made still hold. I can only check the
client, so the server may actually have different settings, but the
above sysctl setting is executed (in the client's startup item) if
SERVER=YES in /etc/hostconfig.
