Well, I found some info here:

But I'm missing something :-( I guess. Most likely licensing is in the
way. Perhaps someone knows better.
Also found this:

But nothing more to it.
I'm sure it's possible. Under Mac OS 9, many software products did it,
so there is a way to interface to the hardware and retrieve the info.
The question is how under OS X?
More interesting is it apparantly has a PPC 750:
