Memory Regions in Mach 3.0

I'm new here so please be gentle and I hope I'm in the right place.

I'm writing a thesis on virtual memory memory management in the
XNU/Mach3/Darwin kernel. Mach 3 supports sparse memory allocation by using
"Memory Regions" and I'm looking for some information on the structure of
such memory regions.

Can anyone point me in the direction of some detailed online info in this
direction?

I'm grateful for any help. Cheers. -k
