Just to keep you up to date on this one - I received a very helpful piece of advice from an Apple guy and my disk is now up and running again! It turns out that when booted in single user from another drive running fsck_hfs -f managed to reset the journal, this made it possible to mount the drive and Diskwarrior took care of making everything nice and tidy again! Guess I'll have to find another excuse to start doing some kernel programming :)

Carsten
