KPI - is Kernel Programming Interface. the kauth KPI is for kernel extensions.

You may want to look at the following (and I'm sure there are more sources) for user - kernel communications:

There are lots of folks on this list that may be able to help you out if you can provide more details on what you want to accomplish. There may be alternatives to writing a kext (which should only be done if it's absolutely necessary).
