Is there a CLI method to enable or disable a 2nd CPU? The CHUD menu utility is nice but I'm not always at the console and would like to be able to test multi processor code on a single processor.

The sysctl commands that look like they might work are either read-only or return errors:

$ sudo sysctl -w hw.availcpu=1
hw.availcpu: Operation not permitted

Any advice other than VNC?

Thanks,

typical... 1 minute later and somehow my fingers just type 'hw<tab>" for me at the Terminal and hwprefs shows up... How does that happen?
