.dmg mounting and unmounting and kauth FILEOP actions

Not sure if this is the right list for this question, but I couldn't think of a better one.

I have a kauth listener listening for FILEOP open and close actions. If I UNmount a disk image (.dmg file), I get a CLOSE action from diskimages-helper, but no corresponding OPEN action from any process. Obviously I don't understand everything that's going on when an image gets mounted.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!
