I believe this is where the problem lies, but I'm not clear on the solution.

It looks like this:

        <key>MyCompany_Filter</key>
        <dict>
            <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
            <string>com.myCompany.driver.myFilter</string>
            <key>IOClass</key>
            <string>com_myCompany_driver_myFilter</string>
            <key>IOMatchCategory</key>
            <string>IOStorage</string>
            <key>IOProviderClass</key>
            <string>IOMedia</string>
        </dict>

I figured this would be wide open.

It looks OK at first blush. You don't have a probe score; is your ::probe method being called?
