OS bug or installer issue?

  • Thread-topic: OS bug or installer issue?

Hi,

I have a kext that subclasses IOBlockStorageDriver, and similar kexts for
variant storage drivers, such as IOCDBlockStorageDriver and
IODVDBlockStorageDriver.

On 10.4.x, after the first reboot following install (whether by installing
manually or by using an Apple Installer installer) only the kext with the
IOBlockStorageDriver subclass seems to be probed. The others appear to be
ignored by the OS. Once the machine is rebooted again, forever after things
work as they should.

We have not reproduced this problem on an Intel Mac nor on 10.5.x with any
Mac, thus far.

This seems to be a kext cache anomaly, but even if I remove
/System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches,
/System/Library/Extensions.mkext, and /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache,
after install, the problem persists.

Has anyone else seen a problem like this? Know a workaround?

Thanks,

Eric
