AFAIK there's no way to make that work. The side bar is generated
by filtering the volumes using a fixed list of file system types.

The FUSE people (Google) demonstrated setting up icons for the FS and
for the contents of the FS for synthetic data from Google's "Flickr
equivalent last Thursday at the Cocoa Heads (Coca user group) meeting.

It's a tutorial that walks you through setting up a new FS, from
scratch, using XCode.
