alternative to selwakeup/selrecord?

  • Subject: alternative to selwakeup/selrecord?

I'm looking for a way to indicate from a device driver to a user-mode thread that there's data to read (via device driver entry d_read_t()).

I found the following thread which mentions that selrecord/selwakeup are no longer exported to kexts:
   http://lists.apple.com/archives/darwin-kernel/2005/Jul/msg00133.html

But no alternative was suggested. So far this is a bsd-ish driver with no reliance on com.apple.kpi.iokit. What is the preferred method in Darwin's bsd subsystem for async io from kernel to user mode?
 thank you for your help,
 Brendan Creane
