Mapping physical memory address zero?

I'm trying to map physical memory using
IOMemoryDescriptor::withPhysicalAddress() and
createMappingInTask().  This fails with address zero.  showbootermemorymap
shows this
first page is available.  I can map in physical memory starting with address
0x1000.
ml_read_phys_*  has no problems reading this memory.  Does anyone know why
this is?
