Just for the record, on most Unixes (Linux included) by my experience processed with the lowest possible priority still get quite some CPU cycles (and not just spare ones). (My opinion is that it is just that those low priority processes do not make interactive programs unresponsive.) So behavior in this sense is similar to Mac OS X behavior.
But there exist rtprio to solve this problem. And I am wondering if there is anything similar on Mac OS X.
