Are you sure your hardware supports it? I don't think Apple shipped
TRIM-capable SSDs in 2009 yet.

FWIW, TRIM is reported as being supported for the "APPLE SSD TS256C"
in a late-2010 MacBook Air as of OSX 10.6.8.
