Title: Re: [Fed-Talk] RE: Army AD and Macs: Not??
The NSA is rolling out Linux like crazy (not sure about Macs).
So are foreign countries because they do not trust Microsoft... The EU is expected to uphold the anti-trust ruling on MS in regards to Windows Media.
Why is it everyone else can see the damage Microsoft inflicts , but the decision makers here cannot see it.
Maybe there is a mysterious bag of cash that ends up on door steps courtesy of Microsoft.
There is no logical reason to support MS in any secure infrastructure. In fact, the only thing Microsoft has ever done WELL is their office application. And that’s not necessarily a “credit to their work”, as there were many predecessors that did it better, but couldn’t survive.
Sorry – this is just one topic that gets me boiling.
Do some investigating on the person that made the “no mac, no linux” decision... I bet you find the has a nice portfolio of Microsoft stock options, or a Hummer on a GS6 salary.

Apparently, the Army must be weakening its security, thus the requirement to remove Macs and Linux. That would be the only conclusion one can make.
Otherwise, if they were strengthening security, it wouldn’t be a problem for Macs and Linux systems to stay connected...

For those that were following the thread, here's the "official" [published internally] reason why Macs will not be allowed on our local AD network:
Latest Active Directory Compliance Requirements
Abstract: The DOIM has released the latest Active Directory Compliance Requirements.
Please note - no MACs or Linux machines or dual booted systems allowed.
LINUX & MACS: will not migrate, and will only be able to talk while NTLM is low.
(NTLM is an authentication protocol used in various Microsoft network protocol
implementations and supported by the NTLM Security Support Provider
("NTLMSSP"). Originally used for authentication and negotiation of secure DCE/RPC,
NTLM is also used throughout Microsoft's systems as an integrated single sign-on
mechanism.
Currently ATSCNET users are at NTLM level 3 which allows communication with the
MAC clients and Linux. Once we move into the Active directory we will be at Level 5
will doesn't allow communications with Linux or Macs
And
"Dual boot systems will not migrate (to AD)"
