Before embarking on my career in the 1st Amendment field, I was also in
the engineering and science field.
On both counts I prefer openness. Among other things, the list continues
to be a place where problems are posted and answers are given. Good answers
are not restricted to those of us who actually are employed in the US Civil
Service system (we are more likely to be the ones with the good questions
and no answers) -- good answers come from having a wide range of experience,
expertise and skill. Peer review of new and emerging concepts, even
unpopular ones, is one of the basic tenants of science.
As others have already commented, the list has very few ranters, ravers
and pontificators (and, actually, some rants have been useful.) We can, and
should, deal with problem people on an individual basis. And, I for one,
can't think of any real postings I would have deemed to be truly a "problem"
to the extent needing list-admin actions.

Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
