One other thing to keep in mind, your email address inside your Certificates must match the email address Mail is configured with.

If your OSX system is properly working with your CAC reader and CAC ID, then Apple's Mail application will allow you to sign an email without any configuration to the Mail application. As for encrypting, you can encrypt once you've received the recipients public key. If you don't have the recipient's public key, have them send you a signed email.

Once you click on New to create a new email message, you should automatically see the options to sign and encrypt emails. These are on the right side of the new email message window close to the Signature pulldown.

If you don't see these options (obviously with your CAC inserted), then you have a problem with your system working with the CAC reader or you haven't setup the KeyChain Access program properly.

OK, I've checked out all the advice so far....

1) Yes, the CAC works in my system. I am able to browse sites that require CAC with Safari and all works well.
2) I Have all 3 certificates (identity, signing, and encrypting).
3) I have a "DoD CLASS 3 Root CA" under X509Anchors in Key Chain Access. (is this enough?)
4) I am able to unlock the "smart card #2" key chain in Key Chain Access.
5) The address in the "Account:" dropdown is the same as the address in my certificate.

I am unsure as to how to check and make sure my certificates are trusted. How would I do this?

I still do not have a option in the New Message window to sign (or encrypt) the message.

Thanks,
Mike
