The prohibition is against the Macintosh computer joining the Active directory. They are allowed to be on the network. I don't think there is any reason why Entourage couldn't connect to an exchange server, provided the user had an account. We still have Exchange 5.5, so I'm shut out by that, so I can't say from personal experience. I can, and do, use Entourage with CAC to send signed and encrypted mail via AKO. I had been using AKO for my Mac users mail with Entourage until a week or two ago. They were having trouble with the size restrictions on their AKO mail box, and when one of their mailboxes filled up, and bounced the wrong person's mail, a chain of events was set off, where I was required to immediately remove AKO email from all Macintosh users, and return them to the Exchange servers. They now have to get up from their desks and find a PC to get their mail from. The words I got were "SHUT UP AND DO IT!".

Implementation memorandum NETC-EST-IA, Subject: Army Implementation of

I don't know the distribution; but undoubtedly your DOIM should have it.
Also, the latest service pack for Office added much greater compatibility
between Entourage and Outlook: a good update. But again -- all the
capability in the world is useless if you can not even "connect". And I
don't think -- someone prove me wrong I hope -- that you would be able to
"connect" with Entourage alone if not on the network and able to see the
server and the server see you.
