OS X can read, but cannot write, NTFS.
"f the partition is 32 GB or smaller, you can use either FAT or NTFS.
If it's larger than 32 GB, then you can only format it using NTFS.
Mac OS X can read and write FAT volumes, but only read NTFS volumes.
Refer to the Windows XP documentation if you are not sure which best
suits your needs."

What this means for spotlight is unclear; I'd guess it could index
the files, but wouldn't be able to store the index in the top level
of the directory as it'd like to.

I would guess not considering one of the options is NTFS which OS X
cannot read (per the technical posting). If you did it as a FAT
parition, and it shows up like a regular USB or fireWire drive, then
it probably could.

Does anyone know if Spotlight can index the files on the Windows
partition?
