You could open Terminal and run "ls -ltr" on the "/Library/Receipts"
directory. That will give you a sorted list of all .app files with their
modified dates.

installed on my Mac? My IM folks have been unsuccessful scanning my
machine with a program called Harris Stat to ensure I've applied the
most recent security update, and they won't take my word for it. So
is there any way to print a report from my Mac that will show which
updates I've applied?

You could take a screenshot from /Library/Receipts/ - that will show
every .pkg that has been run on the machine. Or you could show them a
blank software update window...

You can show them your Software Update log file. Access it through
the Software Update Preference pane (Click "Installed Updates" and
"Open As Log")
Or just send them the file located in /Library/Logs/"Software
Update.log"
BTW, One issue we found with Harris Stat is that it expects all
released updates to have been installed.
Unfortunately, if you miss a Security Update and install say the
10.4.6 update which includes the fixes from that Security Update,
Harris will still report that the Security Update has not been applied.
The only way we found around this was to download the stand alone
missing Security Update apply it and then re-apply the Combo 10.4.6
updater, to make sure that files had not been replaced by older
versions.

It should be fairly easy to create script that runs via cron that
just sends things like a directory listing of /Library/Receipts to a
central server or admin which could process it or store it. When
you're only tracking 5 machines it seems like a lot of work to learn
these third-party products. Just sending via email looks pretty
easy. I imagine with rules in OS X Mail and scripts you could even
process the messages to create summaries of the status of the machines.
How much do these third-party products really check. I know that if
you manually install an update there is no record of the update in
the software update log or at least the parts I have looked at.
Obviously, from the discussions these products have limitations of
their own.
I'm using cron scripts to pull files from a master node to all the
client nodes of a cluster, a lot easier to understand than fancier
means I have seen.
