Here's a question. Ramstein is distributing the DoD root certificates
via a executable that installs them on a Windows machine. I'd like to
install the DoD root certificates on several Macs so as to avoid the
constant certificate errors when going to some of the web pages. Does
anyone know how I would go about finding the DoD root certs? Is it
possible to just manually copy them from one of the Windows machines? If
so, where would they be stored on a PC?
Go to any of the Windows machines, run MMC, add the Certificates
snap-in, and you'll find the root CAs in the "Trusted Root Certification
Authorities" folder. Right-click and export the certs. Note that there
are two--DoD CLASS 3 Root CA and DoD Root 2.
Then open the "Intermediate Certification Authorities" folder. You'll
find all the issuing CA certificates there. You can export all 32 of
'em (sort by name--they all start with "DOD") one at a time or you can
highlight them all and export them into a single file. I recommend the
latter.
Double clicking on the resulting files in Finder will launch Keychain
Access and drop you straight into the certificate import dialog. Make
sure you put the root certs in the X509Anchors keychain.
