some of you may find the safari debug menu interesting - it appears
to include some of the functions being discussed. when safari is not
running, type this command in the terminal:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
restart safari.
if you want to turn debug off, replace the 1 with a 0 in the terminal
command. i haven't played with this much, so i can't answer any
further questions about it.

Now that is one thing Safari could add....Lie about itself upon

you could tell certain sites, "I'm Internet Explorer" since in most
cases the only incompatibility is the test in the first place.

Niiiiiice! :) I was able to browse to the firefox app support folder
and import the bookmarks.html, but our way is also interesting
because
it tricks safari into thinking it hasn't ever asked for an import.
One thing Apple might want to consider for Safari is making it an
option on imports.. to import from Firefox. I imagine they will
get a
lot of users that are coming from firefox to Safari, especially with
Leopard.
I personally went to Firefox because I had too many compatibility
problems with gmail and some other "web20" sites... but Safari seems
to be working fine with them now. (Not a fault of safari mind
you, it
was just gmail and other sites would not enable enhanced features if
it detected Safari).

Quit out of Safari.
Find the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist
Open with Property Editor. (You must have Dev Tools installed.)
Scroll down to "NetscapeAndMozillaFavoritesWereImported"
Change Yes to No.
Launch Safari and it will import bookmarks from Firefox (and
Netscape etc.)
