Is there any way to get an Amended version of the paper on the web
site? That paper seems to be the "holy grail" of getting a CAC Reader
and CAC setup on a Mac. It would be nice if the paper were corrected.

As an FYI, the "copy certs" step isn't necessary in the "CAC on a

When I was testing how to get the whole thing to work and not
finding any concise steps in the forums or on the web, I thought
adding the certs was a necessary step. There were numerous issues
I was working through to get the thing to work reliably and thought
that copying the certs was one of the things that made it work.
Turns out it wasn't necessary - but by then the paper was already
in circulation. Doesn't hurt anything, but isn't necessary either.
And, not to make it an excuse, but I'm primarily a Windows
Sysadmin, Macs were pretty new to me at the time. ;-)

This paper keeps getting cited, but I think the step that tells
users to
copy their certs to the keychain should not be recommended.
Is there some application that needs this? Why is this in the
paper? The
section in question is included below.

Copy new Certificates from CAC to Login Keychain:
You must copy your CAC credentials from the CAC card to the login
(default)
keychain.
a) Insert your USB CAC reader into the system
b) Launch Keychain Access (Go | Utilities | Keychain Access)
c) Click on Show Keychains.
d) Insert your CAC into the reader.
Note that a new entry appears (smart card #x).
e) Click on the smart card #x keychain.
f) Select the certificates with your name (Last.First.MI.xxxxxxx)
and click
on Edit
| Copy.
g) Click on the login (default) keychain and click on Edit | Paste.
h) Close Keychain Access.
