I have heard unsubstantiated rumors that the CIO/G6 has users using
iPhones for remote email. I would be very interested in finding
any information available on the configuration of iPhones and CAC
encrypted email.
Anything that can be reached via IMAP or POP can be accessed via
iPhone. There is no way to integrate CAC into it. However, the
iPhone allows ssl and tls encrypted communications to the servers.
I have checked the latest Two-way Wireless Email Devices (TWED) list
and did not see the iPhone on the approved list.
Probably because of lack of CAC. (hey that rhymed)
In addition, as I understand it you must uses iTunes to enable email
replication, but isn't iTunes considered Peer-to-Peer software
and thus not allowed on DOD networks?
iTunes allows contacts/music/calendars..etc.. to by Synced to the
iPhone, but iTunes and Email have nothing to do with each other. You
are able to sync your Mail accounts on your mac with your iPhone (so
that you don't have to go through the manual process of doing it on
the iPhone), but it can done solely on the iPhone.
iTunes is NOT NOT NOT peer to peer software. You CANNOT trade music
with it. Someone can listen to YOUR music locally over the network,
if you allow them to (not enabled by default). But you CANNOT trade
music with each other.
I wish people would stop saying that iTunes is peer to peer. (Not you
Al, just in general) I've heard it 100x.
