The NPS guide isn't really useful for Leopard (10.5); too much changed.
Take a look at the recent emails from Sean Geddis to this list, in
particular this one:

In my experience, continuous blinking is normal with the SCR311 on OS X
and Linux.

Wayne, just follow Apple's easy CAC set-up instructions at:
http://www.apple.com/federal/
But if you are surprised you can't find it there, then you could then do
a Google Search which would bring you to Phil Hopfner's 21 page NPS
guide to setting up a DoD CAC Reader on OS X (10.4, dtd Mar 06).

I'm brand new to Macs (just purchased an intel MacBook with OS X

reader (I have two to choose from, a SCR 331 and a Gemalto PC USB-SW)
work within Safari so I can access my DoD webmail (outlook web access)?
I tried initially just plugging in the Gemalto reader, and after
plugging it in and inserting the CAC, the light on the reader stays on
green, and my certs do show up in keychain access, but Safari never
prompts me to choose a certificate or for a pin, it just fails to
authenticate to the OWA server.
If I try the SCR331, the light on the reader flashes green constantly,
and in my experience on Windows systems that flashing light usually
indicates that the reader is either not reading the CAC or the driver
is not correctly loaded.
I do have experience with Windows and Linux, but OS X is a different
animal and I'm not experienced enough to figure this out.
Any help is appreciated.
