That's good to hear, Joel. Let's just say I'm very close to the Apple
crowd, and I can say it was not fun for them dealing with the issues
regarding AT&T. I feel like Apple has a bit (or more) of a black eye
for this go round.
Most of the activation piece was pushed back into Apple's lap
(probably due to AT&T providing the subsidization) and that leaves
Apple in a precarious situation. I felt bad for those folks that had
some sort of business flag or discount associated with their account,
because most, if not all, had to get AT&T on the phone and then hope
they had someone worthy of taking care of the situation. Most of the
time....they didn't have that luxury.
Both companies' servers were slammed (DoS, as Craig stated) which is
still causing a backlog of not only checkout, but activating the phone
in iTunes. This is still current as I type this.
If only it were feasible to use that $50 bil to buy them up and
provide the service themselves...

Stood in line for 3 hours, was in the Apple store for 10 minutes.
Picked my plan (already had an iPhone) and was out.
Came back, plugged it up, activated it immediately.. done.

Apparently it's going very badly, as the Activation server seems to
be down currently. Lots of folks updating to 2.0 software are
ending up with bricks -- new software is installed, but the phone
can't be reactivated. Hope that gets fixed soon.

Waited in line from 0330 to 0815. I was number 8 into the store.
It
only took until 0950 for me to have two iPhones without my existing
mobile numbers from another carrier ported over. Things were not
going
very well for the staff in the AT&T store, I am interested how the
Apple
stores are fairing.

I'll admit it. I wanted to see what it would be like to be one of

It =20

I now have one, after standing in line literally from 0700 to 1030,
watching people buy places in line for hundreds of dollars =20
(including Soldiers who offered their spots for $200...and they
were =20
serious). Listening to the rumors that the hackers were already
=20
trying to disrupt the service...I now have an Iphone, car charger

and holster...but will have to go back again because some AT&T
dweeb =20
didn't know what he was doing and my ride had to make a wedding
in =20
Atlanta and couldn't wait for me to try to find someone to fix
the =20

So I'm $400 poorer, without a working Iphone. Way to go, AT&T.
It's ugly out there, people.=20
