You should not need to do a reinstall.

You should be able to replace all the components in SU mode from the
backup folder on your desktop.

Well, I am glad that I'm not alone in this problem. However, I can
still do SU mode and verbose mode. Verbose showed that the system was
looping endlessly around the drivers. In SU I did a fsck -fy and that
moved me a touch closer to normalcy, but still no boot. No replies yet
from Shawn Geddis either, but then, this was a beta driver, so you
takes
your chances. Now I need to find a system disk...
