Not to put to fine a point on it, but at my site 99.5% of the CAC
readers are SCM SCR 331, that's because security bought the ActivCard
package with readers; therefore, Linux and OS X users have to use the
supplied CAC readers or ask their supervisors to replace perfectly
good working CAC readers.
On top of that it appears that within a year all the cards here will
be the Oberthur ID One V5.2. Personally mine will be within six
months and I have users with this card already.
The only good news for us is that almost no one has money to purchase
Leopard so this problem affects only a few people so far.

.... going to wait until Apple fixes the CAC problems leopard?
Be careful not to misrepresent the issue....
There is currently (10.5.0-10.5.2) a very specific issue between
some of the newer Smart Cards (T=1 / Block Transfer) with very
specific Smart Card Readers (SCM SCR 331, 531, 3310, 3311).
Combination with a different reader or a different card work as
expected.
* There are many *different* CACs issued
* There are many *different* Smart Card Readers available.
It is best not to make sweeping statements about things that don't
work to avoid misrepresenting the facts to the readers of this list.
