Title: Re: [Fed-Talk] MBP 15 - Z0EZ
UNCLASSIFIED
I just upgraded my MBP 15 this week, though I've been running
Leopard on my desktop for months (all preproduction). I did the
upgrade by backing up, installing our test load beta, and then
restoring using Migration Assistant.
I recommend upgrading as much as possible. Specifically, SAV
10.2, Timbuktu 8.7, Office 2008, Entrust 7.2 client for us.
If you are upgrading from a PPC system, be careful about moving
over PPC plugins for Safari, iTunes, QuickTime. Run system profiler on
the new system, and look at Applications. You may have to scroll to
the right, but the "Kind" column tells you what is Intel,
PPC, Universal, or Classic. If it's not Universal, think about why
not. Adobe Reader is delivered in either Intel or PPC, rather than
Universal and can cause a world of obscure problems figuring out, for
instance. The PPC version can run on Intel, but the browser plugin
won't work.
My wireless info didn't come over. There is some shankyness with
transferring network info. You may want to throw away a whole
interface, and then recreate. This especially shows up moving between
architectures (ie. if you boot an X-serve from an external drive, and
then try to boot a MBP off the same disk, networking gets confused
about the hardware.
I've also had some problems with Safari interacting with imported
keychain links. If you have an old password in the keychain, Safari
can lock you out of AD without ever complaining about a bad
password.
But, really, Leopard is very solid, and a pleasure to use. I'm
now post-Tiger except primary machines, and I'm glad. Spotlight is
actually useful, and that is nice.

Okay, folks, I have the MBP 15, in my car, waiting to be unveiled. Are
there
any particular precautions with the new machine, and/or Leopard? I
have not
used Leopard, and a bit anxious about using the wizard to bring over
stuff
from my previous laptop.
