We occasionally experience similar issues on windows boxes when a use
has both reader 8 and writer 7.
Perhaps, since OS X has acrobat write capability built in, as well as
PDF read (via preview), the preview/writer is an 'older' version, so
even though you have reader 8, Retina is picking off the older versions
built in to the OS?
Alternately, 'leftover' files may be the issue with both programs.
We've also seen the same thing with Flashplayer - the new version of
flash did not remove file from older version(s).

Subject: [Fed-Talk] Perplexed by Retina issue
Trying to sort this out - Retina scans are being run by our IA folks on
a small group of our Macs (10.4.11) (the Retina version is 5.9.4.1956).
Vulnerability problems have shown up with Acrobat Reader 7 and / or 8
and MS Office 2004.
The vulnerabilities that were identified have been patched, but Retina
is still seeing the same issue even though we've verified the patch was
successful and we can verify this with our logs. The vulnerabilities
flags that aren't going away are;
Acrobat 7 / 8 (Adobe Reader/Acrobat JavaScript Method Handling
Vulnerability - Reader 8.x - Mac) MS Office 2004 (Microsoft PowerPoint
Remote Code Execution (924163) - PowerPoint 2004 Mac) All the
appropriate patches / updates have been installed, but the flags to
these two issues do not go away.
Any clue as to how to resolve this? All insight & inspired knowledge is
appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob
