Thank you all for your collective efforts with this problem! Here is
what worked for me.
Shawn’s suggestion to navigate to the Apple Smart Card Driver
directory:
/usr/libexec/SmartCardServices/drivers/
Where you would see the following CCID Class Driver from Apple to work
with the SCR SCM 331 reader....
CCIDClassDriver.bundle
If you have any other specific driver for the reader (i.e. driver name
begins with "SCR") then I would suggest you remove it by deleting the
driver from that directory and unplugging/re-plugging your reader to your
system.
Was right on the money. I removed all SCM drives as well as the SCR
dirves. I also found and SCR drive lurking in the “driver”
subdirectory of the pcsc(?)
Directory which I removed just to be safe. I then pluged in my SCR SCM
331 reader and I was able to navigate as needed to CAC requiring sites!!!!
I then set up firefox using the other links provided by many of you—thanks,
again.
I guess the next thing I need to learn is how to delete and move
directories around via the terminal. To accomplish the above, I had to boot up
in OS 9.2.2. I then used ResEdit to unhide the usr directory and then started
moving things around as suggested in the forum.
At any rate, I am back in business—thanks!!!
