Actually, it has always been that way - gov't organizations, purchasing
*for* the organization get the largest discount, employees purchasing
for themselves get a slightly smaller discount.
Likely economics of scale.
The method of accessing the appropriate store is what seems to have
changed.
Now there is a nice front door to easily choose for which sector you are
purchasing.
As Michael Johnson said, I am glad they offer the discount to
contractors as well. (many don't)
I've been purchasing through the Federal Employee store for several
years.
In my experience, the discounts on OS and software have decreased (for
all stores), but the percent off on hardware has remained relatively
constant.

First, let me say that I appreciate that Apple offers government
employees a discount.

Second, let me point out that a 16" sony laptop with 3GB of RAM
and 250 GD HD costs $933. A 13" Macbook with 1GB of RAM and 120 GB HD
costs about $1100 ($1033 to fed employees). Of course the MacBook comes
with iLife and Mac OS X, but Apple needs to catch up a bit on
pricing.

Now to the subject of my memo...
Maybe I missed it, but when I recently went to the government purchase
page I noticed different pages for federal employees for work or
personal <http://www.apple.com/r/store/government/>. It appears federal
employees pay a few percent more now.
Is this new or did I just miss a change (or was it always like that?)?

Thanks,
Allan Marcus
