For anybody who is now interested enough in the math, tech or just plain
jargon, the book _Crypto_ by Steven Levy is an excellent introduction. It is
non-fiction, but reads like a thriller. And did I mention that it is an
excellent introduction to the theories of modern crypto as well as the
recent history of how we got where we are?

(Steven Levy has and continues to write about Apple, Macintosh, iPods, etc.,
so hopefully that adds some relevance.)
