Title: RE: [Fed-Talk] Apple to yank the Palm Pre iTunes Media Sync
While it is upsetting that Apple pulls functionality from certain apps (Palm Pre and possibly the BB Storm)... they must protect their investment. apple built the iTunes store and created a music ecosystem if you will with the ipod and the store... if BB or Palm want to compete on that level, they should try to launch their own iTunes type store.
When I go through my "mad at ATT" phases, and I try other phones (Google G1, MyTouch, BB Storm and the PalmPre), I always come back to the iPhone... there is nothing better out there, I am sorry. Whether you hate apple or love them, the iPhone is a work of art compared to anything else. My main problem is with ATT, and of my four iPhones, I have made the jump to jailbreak one to Tmobile... Tmobile's customer service is superb... I do not get dropped calls... but their network speed is terrible... and unfortunately, because of the HSPDA(?) protocol ATT uses for their 3G signal, Tmobile 3G does not work with the iPhone... so now I carry two iphones... the tmobile for voice calls (and coupled with GoogleVoice you get unlimited minutes for $35 a month), and the 3GS for data use... it sux, but until another carrier picks up the iPhone, I refuse to give ATT another dime for dropped calls.

This is not a surprised news by Apple to yank the Palm Pre iTunes Media Sync.

I used MarkSpace products and after having is destroy data left and right I made sure it never made its way on to any of my machines again.
Even if BB uses the raw data files from itunes rather than itunes itself, it's still a menial task to change one thing to have it break the interface.
I do not believe apple will allow ANY device, other than an iPod or iPhone to use any itunes resources. The DRM structure assisted with this greatly, but now that the DRM is gone, that barrier is gone as well, so now it's open game...
I remember when Microsoft made MSN messenger tie in to the AIM network, it was a cat and mouse game for months.. Microsoft would make MSN messenger work with AIM, AIM would stop it... Microsoft would fix the AIM block, AOL would block it again... it was entertaining to see the two companies go at it, but eventually it was just easier to download both.
I do not ever plan on dumping my iPhone, much less for a Blackberry, but there are others who will count on that feature (such as the Palm) and will lose it eventually.

Since we have no clue how the BB Desktop software will interface with iTunes, it may be premature to think that it will be blocked. One of Apple's biggest arguments against Palm regarding the Pre sync was that the Pre "presented" itself to iTunes AS an iPod - it actually said "iPod" in the sidebar. That alone sounds like a trademark violation to me. BB/RIM may be going about it a different way, either by a 3rd party sync utility or something else. MarkSpace has been doing this for years, and Apple has not publicly complained.

Actually the PalmPre is not doing it now. Apple killed that off with that latest iTunes update.

Damn! I just ditched my Storm too!!!
Although, I've developed for them ALL (android, iphone, BB)... so I've had them all, and still after three years nothing touches the iPhone.
It will be interesting to see how long Apple allows the syncing of the iTunes material though... PalmPre is doing it now, and the word on the street is Apple will put a stop to it soon (not legally, but from a technical standpoint).
