You can easily "crack" the iPad security:

Craig, et al,
I know the question may have been facetious, but since I just had this
conversation with a co-worker after he got done playing with my iPad I
thought I’d address it. I love the iPad and will use it most of the time
in place of either my work or personal laptop (or both), but there are
some limits that need to be recognized:
you have to have a computer, at a minimum, for the initial sync
(and if you want your system backed up after that)
assuming your media library is bigger than the size of the iPad
storage, you’re going to need someplace to hold those files and
transfer a subset to your iPad
mobile Safari is not equal to desktop Safari – for example if I
connect to my Snow Leopard Server at home from my laptop I can
edit blog and wiki entries but on the iPhone and iPad I can only
view them
I shoot high def video on vacation and edit everyday, so I guess
I’ll still need my laptop for that
lack of CAC access and file encryption makes it borderline legal
for any DoD work use (but that won’t be an issue for most folks)

That's the question my 22 and 27 year old daughters and our

You always get this reactionary behavior from the old guard when
there is truly a sea change coming. If you go back 3 years ago you
will read similar things about the iPhone and its design (What, no
physical keyboard? No way!), and now not only does the iPhone
dominate the smart phone market but every competitor has copied
the basic iPhone design.
Right now, a fairly legitimate question people ask is, "If you
already have a workstation and a laptop, do you really need an
iPad?"
I think in 3 years the question will be, "If you already have a
workstation and an iPad, do you really need a laptop?"
If you want a good chuckle, check out the picture of the AT&T EO
4400 Personal Communicator. And yes, that is a telephone handset
on the top of it.
