It "could take several minutes" but that really depends on how old the
Ephemeris data in the GPS receiver is. I have cellular aiding turned off
on my blackberry 8800 and typically get a nav solution from the embedded
GPS in under 30 seconds.

It can acquire a GPS fix without any cellular network or Wi-Fi
connectivity, but because it is not optimized for that in the same way
that a dedicated handheld GPS receiver (and its antenna) is, it could
take several minutes (instead of seconds) to acquire an accurate fix.
To be clear, when I say "it could take several minutes (instead of
seconds) to acquire an accurate fix," that is in *absence* of any
cell/Wi-Fi connectivity.

does have location services, but only via cell network and Wi-Fi
triangulation, and the iPod touch only via Wi-Fi. (Wi-Fi triangulation
services are provided by Skyhook Wireless.)
