You can't disable GPS without turning of the 3G chipset, but of course any
of these practices for preserving battery life could apply to any mobile
device with a battery. Apple's main focus with the multitasking API has
been power management. Of course, if things are actively running in the
background they'll have an impact on battery life, but I think folks will
be pleasantly surprised given Apple's diligence and attention in this area.
