Dave,
I like the fact that that website broke ever NDA agreement Apple has. In the spirit of being a good Federal employee, I personally won't reference sites that break the NDA (I want to keep my membership intact).
Server is an "optional" install, not a separate install. You are supposed to be able to install it during the standard Lion installation (click on Options). It requires an empty disk to install to but I haven't gotten the installation to work. It might be trying to grab additional software from Apple to complete the installation. Client installed just fine and that's all I'll say here.

I write this as someone who has paid for two copies of each of Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard server (out of his own pocket.) I think it's a fair question to understand the motivation here. Now if Apple will support Server features in Lion under AppleCare, that would be a Truly Amazing thing, Server tech support currently is not cheap (and I'm waiting for the bill for my most recent call to Mid Atlantic for their assistance. ;-(

Maybe this strategy and with the product provides will be great for SOHO and small departmental type customers, but bad for enterprise-wide applications. Of course, Apple's move away from that space is clear, and with the Xserve discontinued, we had no choice but to end-of-life Mac OS X Server as a supported OS in our datacenters.
