ALCON,
I recently did some experimentation with FileVault 2 and would like to
let you know there are a few things to be aware of:
1) DASDs that use block size greater than 512 bytes seem to have
issues with using FileVault 2 (Apple has accepted this as a bug, is
fixing it, and it will be inclusive to the next major Lion software
update).
2) If you are running MacOS X Lion on a headless server, using
FileVault 2 might leave you noticing some very major limitations:
a) It will not work with RAID volumes whatsoever
b) If you enable (as did I), FileVault 2 on a bootable volume on a Mac
Mini, the absence of a keyboard and mouse and being physically present
to enter the password to unlock the DASD will leave the machine in a
state that it cannot be remotely restarted.
Now, that said, things like the Lantronix Spider Duo could work around
such limitations as well.
