Apple brand drives are Toshiba, but Toshiba 2.5" apparently have some reliability problems. (I've had 2 fail, one in a Mac replaced under warranty, and one I bought myself. That's still better than Seagate 3.5" 1tb drives, where I have a 66% failure rate.)
You could try the Seagate hybrid drives, I stuck one in an older MB Pro and did notice speed-up. But I can't speak to the reliability of those drives, since I replaced that laptop. The early Seagate hybrids did have problems on Macs but I think they've resolved them. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006670&isNodeId=1&Description=hybrid+drive
No matter what, I'd strongly recommend a 7200rpm drive unless you're very concerned about battery life. There is enough performance difference that you'd notice.
Just make sure you don't accidentally end up with a thick 2.5" drive. That happened to me, I bought a WD 2.5" 1tb drive that is thicker than the standard laptop drives. I ended up having to buy a new external enclosure for it, since it didn't fit in my other external drive enclosures.
