All from a company that can't get play counts to sync through their flagship cloud product.
If you grunt hard enough, you'll get iTunes Match with a plop.
Wish I would have charged for iclouddrop.com<http://iclouddrop.com>, the downloads even at $1 would have been a new (nice) car.

The increased time between attempts is only in the GUI. When attempting to brute force the password from the command line on the device there is only an 80 nanosecond delay between attempts.

Not true.
The system automatically degrades the time after the first few attempts. My kids think it is funny to lock each other out of their devices for hours of retry delay.
Don't know the algorithm by heart but it is not punitive to the legit user. I do know, from the kids experience, it ramps up to hours between retries when you chastise the interface.

Actually, a 4 digit pin can be cracked pretty easily. From what I understand, there is an 80 nanosecond delay between attempts, so for 10,000 attempts, the theoretical fastest break is only 800 seconds, or 13.3 minutes, plus a few minutes for overhead. A 6 character alphanumeric, however, might take as long as 190 years. A 8 character complex, 27 million years. An 8 character alphanumeric would be 750,000 years. Most secrets would be stale by then :-)
I don't know why Apple doesn't just have ADP apply to all data. Maybe is has something to do with syncing when not logged in. I don't see how that would be possible. I don't think itunes syncs mail (it only syncs the accounts), so I think that's how Apple gets away with encrypting Mail. Still, I would rather the option to require a login to sync and have safer data than what we have now.

You would think Apple Data Protection would just be automatic for every app, it's fairly simple to implement... why wouldn't someone implement it?
I know the NSA can crack a 4 or 6 digit pin pretty easily.... (JUST KIDDING!!) :)

Well, the choices are stark for encryptions options on iOS devices. Good provides FIPS certified encryption for e-mail/calendar and docs, but there is no way to edit the docs and keep the data in a FIPS encrypted container. Heck, at this point I'd accept any encryption!
Apple's device is encrypted until you turn it on, then it's decrypted. An added layer of encryption is implemented if two factors are in place: 1) a device passcode is used, and 2) the application uses Apple Data Protection. Apple's Mail is one that does, so simple turning on a passcode (use a 6 character alpha numeric at minimum, best is 8 complex or more) automatically encrypts the underlying data. Good Reader uses ADP, but you have to turn it on in the Good Reader prefs. The list of apps that use ADP is very very small. See <http://www.enterpriseios.com/wiki/List_Apps_Support_Apple_Data_Protection><http://www.enterpriseios.com/wiki/List_Apps_Support_Apple_Data_Protection>>
So, we are looking for a way to edit documents in a program that uses ADP to protect the data. QuickOffice SelectPro HD did this, but Google is discontinuing this version.

Good question.
For those that have not read, the info on "Data Protection" in iOS was presented a couple of years ago at WWDC (can dig up the session video) and is described here:
http://images.apple.com/ipad/business/docs/iOS_Security_May12.pdf
there are multiple features in "Data Protection" so just saying that an app implements the APIs for Data Protection may not be enough to go on.

Does anyone know of an office editing app on the ipad and/or iphone that uses Apple Data Protection? QuickOffice SelectPro HD is no longer, and as far as I can tell, that was the only one.
