Speaking of Mountain Lion: I grabbed the Messenger beta and tried it.
I sent and received a message with my wife's iPhone. Then the laptop
started behaving strangly, and Activity Monitor showed this beast had a
virtual memory size of 8.3gb and growing as I watched (with -no
activity- in Messenger.) I force-quit it ('terminate with extreme
prejudice') and uninstalled it.
