It can happen to anyone, but I find it interesting that, apparently, the biggest security company in the world didn't realize for 6 years that they had been penetrated and their crown jewels accessed.  If the hackers were really good, they would have modified the security products to install backdoors.

But [company spokesman Cris] Paden said in an email on Tuesday that an investigation into the matter had revealed that the company's networks had indeed been compromised.
