You're spoiled. :-)
To Mike's earlier point - Jobs DID spec out this iPad, and the next iPhone, and I wouldn't be surprised if he'd been involved in the specifications and design for the 2013 models as well. After that, well, all bets are off.
The new iPad (as much as I hate the name, it's starting to grow on me - maybe because I don't have a choice *grin*) IS magical. Show me another device, with that resolution. Show me another device with 10 hours battery life, or even 9 with LTE. Show me another dual-core tablet with those specs, starting at $500 with NO CONTRACT. That's what I call magic. That's what I call good business. And that's what I call mine, a week from today. :-)
You want "true" innovation? Honestly, Apple is in a cycle where they do something amazing, then the following year they refine it and improve it, and then the following year they blow you away again. This happens to be a down year, from last fall through this summer. I love my iPhone 4S - the camera's much better, and it's faster than the 4. I don't use Siri much... Don't need 'her'.
As far as 'the presenter' - do you mean Tim Cook, the CEO? Or one of the other guys? Tim doesn't have Steve's presence, but he's smart enough not to try.
Finally... Lack of Siri. I haven't heard anything official, but my GUESS is that because the iPad isn't an "always-on-network" the way the iPhone is, that's why they didn't include it. It DOES have dictation, and I'm incredibly curious whether it does the speech-to-text directly on the device, or if it needs the network for that (the way the iPhone 4S does)... I'll find out next week!
-=Alan

I agree. The presenter (I can never remember his name) was a metaphor. Trying to do a bad Steve Jobs impression, acting like Jobs without the power. Same deal with the Ipad. I've been disappointed twice in a row by Apple (past Iphone and now this Ipad). I, and I think a lot of other folks, are longing to have Apple knock our socks off as they once did...We were already fantasizing about a TV and got a "meh" upgrade of Apple TV instead of a whole new device. We were looking for something "magical" in the new Ipad and got, okay, but nothing magical. Better at what you do is one thing but it's not innovation. And that's what we've come to expect from Apple. Maybe we're just spoiled or they've just become IBM.
