Hi All,
I'm having a heck of a time connecting to a site through their
SonicWall. I'm on a 6 month old MacBook Pro (OS X 10.8, x64, fully
patched).
When I attempt to set up the L2TP connection, I get a message from the
network applet stating "server is not responding" (in reality the logs
show different):
Wed Nov 14 16:25:41 2012 : IPSec connection started
Wed Nov 14 16:25:41 2012 : IPSec phase 1 client started
Wed Nov 14 16:25:41 2012 : IPSec phase 1 server replied
Wed Nov 14 16:25:42 2012 : IPSec phase 2 started
Wed Nov 14 16:26:12 2012 : IPSec connection failed
...
Wed Nov 14 17:23:16 2012 : L2TP connecting to server 'WWW.XXX.YYY.ZZZ'
Wed Nov 14 17:23:16 2012 : IPSec connection started
Wed Nov 14 17:23:16 2012 : IPSec phase 1 client started
Wed Nov 14 17:23:16 2012 : IPSec connection failed <IKE Error 23
(0x17) Invalid hash information>
SonicWall has a free client called NetExtender, but it needs Java. I
have Java 7 installed (I'm aggressively monitoring and managing the
Java mess), but the OS continually prompts me to install Java 6 and
exits (which more than doubles my risk). Apple Radar 12082976.
Supposedly, SonicWall's own VPN Tracker works with SonicWall on Mac OS
X 10.8. I'm skeptical, and don't want to spend the money on a guess
(at $269 a license).
TLDR: (1) Does anyone know how to make Mac's VPN work with SonicWall,
and (2) does anyone know if VPN Tracker actually works on Mac OS X
10.8?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
