There were a couple of Java updates released on Tuesday, one update for 10.6.x and a separate update for 10.7.x and higher.

I've got a post summarizing the differences between the two updates here:

http://derflounder.wordpress.com/2012/10/17/java-for-os-x-2012-006-and-java-for-mac-os-x-10-6-update-11/

Thanks,
Rich

Apple has further distanced itself from Oracle's Java software framework with a Mac update released on Wednesday that removes a Java plugin from all Mac-compatible Web browsers.
